Alice in Wonderland

(no subject)

I got my last ever schedule today... What's more, it's not even TOO bad:
Sunday: 1-11 (potential for HOB-ness, woohoo!)
Monday: 7-2 (my favourite, plenty of time to take photos of the place!)
Tuesday: 3:30-2 (not so good, but my last chance to go round taking photos..!)
Wednesday: 6:30- 00:30 (would rather be there until 2 if everyone else is, but I'm not going to complain about a 6 hour shift!)

All on stock except Wednesday too, which means I can take advantage of the length of my breaks/ go around taking photos. Might ask to be switched to stock on Wednesday too... surely they should grant me my last wish seeing as it's the year of a million dreams and all ;)

On the downside, work is really weird at the moment. All the American CPs and some Mexicans left a week ago, and Wednesday was the last day for a lot of the ICPs, including Pierre, who was one of the people who made work just... fun. Always joking around and stuff. Work is so weird without them all- it's only the Canadians, the Spring Advantage ICPs and the people who started at the same time as us left now... Even weirder is that a load of new CPs were shipped in literally a couple of days after the old lot left, and they'll all start their training this week. So next week when they're all on their own is going to feel so odd, as it'll be like there's this whole new lot of people just starting their adventure as we finish ours... I can imagine it being a little like we're not supposed to be their any more. Meh. Still, only nine scheduled days left of work. Can't quite believe it. Much like I often still can't believe I'm actually here. Like today, when Vicki sent round a thing about meeting up for Vietnam I both thought a) if they arrange that for two weeks time I could actually go, and b) if I can't go... it's because I'm in Florida. And everyone else is at home. How exactly did I manage that?

Life update-wise, most of last week was spent sunbathing by the pool due to early starts (and late finishes) at work. Wednesday, however= Seaworld with Charlotte T, which was ace. Saw all the animals and rode Kraken, which was ace. Came home and it was a quick change before going round to Kate & Amy's for some High School Musical Uno-themed drinking games (yes, alcohol-involved. SHOCK!). I may or may not have been forced to eat bread before even leaving the house (this is what lack of alcohol + humidity does to you, folks. No tolerance whatsoever any more!). So then us two, Rosie, Charlotte C, Camilla and I went off on the Vista Party Bus to Makos. With a Midgit. Who poured drinks down our throats (they didn't care for the 21+ drinking rule much) and made Char & Amy do body shots off of one another. Stewart (work Stewart) was also on the bus, also rather red-in-the-face from alcohol! Anyways, got to Makos, which was sleazy as ever. The girls were wearing even less this time- their tops were actually painted on. I didn't notice this for a while, either, which either shows that whoever was doing the painting was rather talented, or I was just that far gone. I'm going for the latter. Had our night fuelled mostly by some corporate businessman in the "vip" (tiny circle at the top of the balcony- perfect meat-market spot...) section of the club, who just kept buying massive jugs of vodka and cranberry juice and letting us loose on them (and the one of the Makos girls made him buy me & Rosie a shot before we disappeared about 10 seconds later. Ha!). To be fair, that was probably quite a stupid thing to do but it made for a fun night all the same. Oh and I got a little bit close with a Charlie from Busted lookalike (with less eyebrows). Fun times...

Thursday was spent sleeping/recovering/laying by the pool, until it was time to wonder on down to the pool party to welcome new CPs. Except for us it was more time to say goodbye to the people leaving the next day, which was horrible. All these people celebrating, and there's us all like 'I'm never going to see you again'. Bleh. Still, there was free pizza, drinks and cookies so it wasn't all bad. We (Rosie, Danielle, Charlotte C and I) then went to Magic Kingdom to eat ice cream, see Wishes and then go on all the kiddie rides in Fantasyland such as Snow White's Scary Adventures, Winnie The Pooh, It's A Small World (naturlich) and the teacups, which were nauseating (I can't spell...) So a fun night all round, really.

Friday= Went to Magic Kingdom with Charlotte C to meet Ariel and do some shopping in the morning. Came back for about 1, then did my favourite 3:30-2 shift, which actually went reasonably fast. I don't know why, but work never seems to drag too much any more. Now I've said that, you can guarantee that today will go by slow as anything.

Saturday. Went to Norway for a Princess Breakfast which was ACE; met Belle, Aurora, Snow White, Ariel (in the dress she wears when she has that first dinner with Eric/his Dad, or I think that's the point we decided it appears) and Jasmine. The food wasn't half bad either- fruit and pastries and SCRAMBLED EGG, SAUSAGE AND BACON! Not proper bacon, unfortunately, but it was still PROPER ENGLISH BREAKFAST FOOD. I was quite excited, and I don't think being in the prescence of princesses helped. Of course all this excitement made me a little ill, so I couldn't go to work yesterday. A shame. Instead I ended up going to Typhoon Lagoon. Heather was actually off so she got us in for half price. We don't get into the water parks for free- utter cheek. Of course as divine retribution for mine and Charlotte's phoning in, naturally she hurt her foot (really badly) as soon as we entered the wave pool. So we last about 2 hours there before coming home. Was knackered so gave Beaches & Cream/Kitchen Sink a miss and ate pizza with the flat girlies instead. It was good pizza. Watched Girls of the Playboy Mansion and was very glad that I'd phoned in. Woo!

Today I work 1-11:30 on stock and reg. Can't wait...

But still, the feeling of wanting to go home and being done with the whole work thing is gone now. I really don't want to leave- I'm going to be so sad when I have to say goodbye to everyone here. Not that I don't want to see everyone at home, but being here for ten weeks was just like a uni term, without the option of going home for a night or two if you were upset, or tired, or just felt like you wanted to. As a result, you end up just getting so close to all the people you're here with... I can't believe that in a few weeks we all have to go our separate ways, meeting up for reunions (hopefully) now and again, but otherwise that'll be it. It's so sad. Basically my attitude at the moment is 'excited to be going, sad to be leaving'.

Still, there's a whole two weeks to go, so that's not worth thinking about quite yet, and plenty lined up that I have to do in that time. And now I should probably start getting ready for work (we all know this means I'm going to potter around on Facebook for another hour though).

More updates to come soon I'm sure.
Tinkerbell

Not quite so magical...

Whoever schedules for World of Disney is an utter git:

Sunday 15th: 18:30- 02:00
Monday 16th: 16:00- 11:00 (OK that one could be worse)
Tuesday 17th: 15:30- 02:00
Wednesday 18th: 13:00- 19:00 (wow, a normal shift)
Thursday 19th: Effectively off
Friday 20th: 23:30 (on the Thursday)- 09:00 (on the Friday)... Apparently they're moving lots of stuff around. Still... not impressed!
Saturday 21st: 16:30- 23:30

I actually have one evening to myself that week. One. Ugh. I'm thinking it's time for a shift giveaway! (Only question is... which). OK, so I've got a decent job, but how come everywhere else gives people two days off and if you look at the way my schedule's posted, I effectively get NONE for 11 whole days. Really although I have most of Thursday and Friday to myself, I'm going to be too tired to enjoy them anyway. I am not impressed right now. Especially as Amy J put in a request for days off at a similar time to me and didn't get a single one of them, so I'm guessing I'm going to get the same response when my parents visit, which means it's basically pointless them even coming down as I doubt I'll get to see them anyway. Brilliant...

In other news, I have fallen a little bit out of love with the princess room after having to stock in 'zone one' in there last night, which is where all the costumes are. And much as I love the costumes, they're not so fun when you have to keep tidying up the shoes that customers feel fine about trying three or four pairs on in each size (makes sense...) and then leaving all over the floor afterwards. On the bright side, Charlotte was working zone 2, so we could still chat now and then. It was during one of these chats that two fo the managers came by and said the room was looking really good, and that it's a really hard room to keep filled up, etc, so that was nice to hear! Oh, and I was talking to some guy and then he noticed my nametag. And was like 'Oxford! That's where the make Mini Coopers!' Which was quite exciting as that's the first person who's said something about the city other than about the university (anyone who's heard of the city seems to be really proud of knowing about it- well the university- which is always quite funny). Then he was like 'oh, and isn't there a university there too? I've heard it's pretty good', so I was just like 'it's up there', then his wife turned around to me and whispered that he'd actually gone there for two terms (sorry, semesters :P) way back when... so then he told me he'd had a mini cooper- hence how he knew about the BMW plant- and we got to have a nice ol' conversation about Oxford. They were a really nice family actually, and came in just as I was getting really tired and fed up at around 11, so that made me nice and smiley for the last hour of my shift.

My back is really sunburnt after missing a few spots yesterday.

And now I have to get ready for another shift today. Only 11-5 though so I feel the need to do something tonight, as I am definitely making the most of this week and only having to go into work for one evening as next week that is not going to happen at all. Bastards :P

Until later.
He Is Not Crazy!

Getting you up to speed!

Right, better start where I left off, which was my Mechentainment class. Basically this was an hour of super-happy people talking to us about what you expect when you go shopping, etc etc, and then a couple of hours self-till-training on computers, which made it seem extremely complicated, and hopefully moreso than it actually is! Had to do the mini test at the end twice because I didn't understand the prompt things... oops. But loads of people had to do that so never mind. After that we were supposed to be going to the Magic Kingdom but everyone seemed to be knackered so we went home, got some food and then ended up lounging around by the pool in the evening/ chatting at Laura/Rosie/Charlotte's flat. Someone working Froteirland Merch also kindly said that they throw you completely in at the deep end- his first transaction was to send one of those massive snow globes (which you can't take on planes any more because of the whole liquid restriction thing) to Ireland, and then he had to do a load of returns. So... erm... quite scared! But still, a couple of days before I'm on the registers yet so not worth thinking about yet!

So, yesterday I made the most of my last day off before beginning work properly tomorrow, and went to Animal Kingdom with Charlotte I, Charlotte T, Kate, Amy and Rosie. We went straight to Everest to get a fastpass then wondered around the area doing the river rapids (soaked once again, but not in denim this time so it was alright. Poor Amy was in white... never good!), the jungle trek (Tigers!) and then headed back to Everest... which was out of order for 'technical dificulties'. Grr. So we headed off to Dinoland where we went on the spinball whizzer-type-ride (I forget its name...), Dinosaur (seriously scary. Good but VERY scary) and had some munch before heading back to Everest... which was running but JUST closed closed because of lightening storms in the area... So then we went off to It's Tough To Be A Bug before going back to Everest... and it was open! Woo! So we headed practically straight onto the ride and it was SO worth the wait! Absolutely amazing! My favourite Disney ride I think... We got off and went straight back on again (well, after a 30 minute wait) it was that ace. Rosie then went home to sunbathe while the rest of us went on Kilimajaro Safari, where we saw lots more animals, and came out just as Mickey's Jammin' Jungle parade- my first glimpse of Mickey/Donald/Goofy since I've been here, would you believe?! Must find a time to actually meet them at some point...

We headed home after this, arriving back just in time before mega thunder storms struck. It was pretty much right above us- the closest I've been to lightening/thunder before I'm sure, which was actually pretty scary! Still, it didn't put us off getting ready to go out- yes, out out- for our first time in Florida. By us I mean Charlotte C, Kate, Amy, their flatmate Sarah, Rosie, and her flatmate Becky. Becky, by the way, is lovely but should be hated for telling us backstage secrets about all of the cast (she works in Costuming in Magic Kingdom (I think) so knows anything and everything about the characters, which is stuff I don't want to know!). But anyway, we went to House of Blues in Downtown Disney, which has a service night on Sunday. Which means over 21s with Cast Member ID get in free and the girls get free alcoholic drinks until midnight. Under 21s, however, pay $10 to get in and had to pay for all their non-alcoholic drinks. Not impressed! Oh and security are so strict- Charlotte and Rosie had their drinks sniffed and receipts checked to make sure their redbull wasn't alcoholic! Very different to British clubs. In more ways than one actually- people are rather more outgoing over here in their dancing (I know some people let go a lot at home, but these people really let go!), and you know when people get in circles around break dancers? Well apparently that doesn't just happen in films..! Was a pretty cool night actually, even despite the discrimination against us 19-year-old selves- Red Bull is apparently quite a good substitute for alcohol! And the dancing craving was satisfied so that was cool. I ended up heading back quite early though, with Amy and Sarah, due to an early start today. Such a good girl, eh...

So, today was our 'Urban Adventure' ie. a tour around Downtown Disney, where they took us into a few shops, told us the history about the place and made sure we know where things like guest relations, telephones, toilets, etc are. Not that I'll ever remember- going to have to study the map a lot! They also took us into one of the clubs on Pleasure Island (not an over-21s one though, so whatever they look like will forever remain a mystery) called The Adventurer's Club, which is one of the oddest things I have seen in my life! It's themed like a 1930s high society sort of club, and the Bartenders can control stuff like whether people's stools at the bar go up and down, there are animatronics on the wall that may or may not speak, and apparently there are cast there you can interact with at night. Very, very odd, but it has made me somewhat intrigued as to what it might be like in the evening. I think we get in free as well, so if it really started to freak us out we could just get the hell out of their sharpish with no money lost!

Anyway that tour finished at about 1 so Amy, Jordan (a Scottish guy also working at WoD who was apparently on our flight, but there were so many people that I don't remember!) and I sat around in the breakroom talking for the 45 minutes until the bus home. Well, in my case it was more falling asleep but never mind. So that was that...

Oh and to my Grandparents, who asked if I ever plan to do any work here, I found out my schedule for the next fortnight today and boy is it lovely...

Tuesday 3rd: 3:30- Midnight (Stock Training)
Wednesday 4th: OFF (Thank GOD! I would NOT like to work on July 4th!)
Thursday 5th: 9:30- 6 (Till training)
Friday 6th: 9:30-5 (Till training)
Saturday 7th: 3:30- Midnight
Sunday 8th: 11- 5
Monday 9th: 12- 6
Tuesday 10th: OFF (woo..!)
Wednesday 11th: 12:30- 8.00
Thursday 12th: 11- 6
Friday 13th: 12- Midnight
Saturday 14th: 9.30- 6

Oh yes, folks, you did read those last two correctly. Not only do they have me in for twelve straight hours on Friday (I believe 4 of those should be time and a half though, or at least they better be!), after which I won't get home until around one due to the times of buses, but then I will have to be up at 7 the next morning to get an 8:15 bus ready for another 8 1/2 hour shift! They work you hard hear! Although at least I have a few 6 or 7 hour shifts, but still! Oh well, nobody ever said they were easy on us here... I could have it a lot worse, also- people in the Magic Kingdom are working until around 4am at the moment, and Charlotte (flatmate) is always working the evening shift, so she's in 5:30-2/3:30-midnight every shift, which sucks as I'll hardly see her except for my 3:30-midnight days/ days off. Katie is working 3:30- midnight every day this week and Jorden (also in World of Disney) has a nine day week as of tomorrow... I'm keeping my fingers crossed for that NOT to be the case!

Oh, also, I found out yesterday that Kate lives in Thame and went to Lord Bills! You come all the way to Florida... and end up hanging out with one of your practical neighbours..! (Oh and Vicki, she's doing Chem at York so I guess you finish a lot earlier than you did in future years!)

Right, not a lot else to report. Not sure what the plan for tonight is- will probably end up crashing block 36 at some point, until then I just want to sleep!

But first more photos! Collapse ) </center>

The End
